About AMCA.STUDIO
About AMCA.STUDIO:
AMCA.STUDIO is a solo project run by artist, Archie McAlpine. His artwork spans across multiple disciplines (including drawing, painting, photography, digital art, and fashion), with a running theme of nature flowing into all of his creative projects. Currently studying his Master’s degree in Neuroaesthetics, he is fascinated in the intersection between art and neuroscience, and how the combination of both creative intuition and a baseline knowledge in Neuroaesthetics, can enhance the overall aesthetic appeal in his creative work.
I’m currently juggling this project with my Master’s degree and SEN teaching/homeschooling. My creative outlet has always been of high importance to me, and something I wish to endlessly sustain and evolve. I began AMCA.STUDIO at the back end of 2018, to use as a platform to share my creative work, which I used as an outlet during my university studies. I explored many different forms of media for the first time, notably clothing design, as well as photography and photoshop.
The basis of my work has always stemmed inspiration from the natural world, whether it be the influence of the environment on human genetics (‘Evolution’ project), exploring the relationship between the natural and industrial worlds (‘DREAMSCAPES’ project), or simply exploring digital manipulations of the natural world to generate aesthetic outcomes (photography/digital art projects). Being immersed in nature growing up has definitely provided me with this key source of inspiration for my work.
Academically, I have a background in biomedical sciences and am currently delving into the world of Neuroaesthetics through my Master’s degree, which bridges the gap between art and neuroscience. I am fascinated in how art itself can support one’s well-being, and how specific objective/subjective components of art can stimulate aesthetic experiences. I am also fascinated in the meditative and therapeutic benefits that are experienced during the overall creative process. My ultimate aim is not to create artwork that's tied stringently to concepts, but to create work that focuses on aesthetic value through a creatively playful process.
My more recent artistic practice has been an amazing opportunity for me to apply and further consolidate my knowledge in art psychology, Neuroaesthetics, and creativity. Ultimately, I rely on my own creative intuition (as every artist does), but considering some key visual features from a psychological and neuroscientific perspective.
